Public Speaking-Importance Of Eye Contact When Speaking

When you’re doing a presentation, nothing will help you connect with your audience better than making eye contact, or as I teach my people, “eye connection.” Pay attention to the next public speaker you watch live or on television, and see how well he or she engages you with his or her eyes.

The next time you do a presentation, lock eyes with one person for two sentences and move to someone across the room and do the same. You will be amazed at how the entire room is glued to your presentation and their attention span will be through the roof.

I have more secrets and techniques for making great eye contact that are guaranteed to radically improve your audience evaluations, but you’ll have to wait. If you want them now, post a comment below…and I’ll think about it. : )

  1. (bending on one knee) Please oh please oh please Jonathan give me some more techniques about eye contact!!! I’m preaching a sermon at a new church soon and I definitely want to connect with the people.

  2. With so many other public speaking tips being given, this basic tip is often overlooked.

Especially, when giving the introduction and conclusion, it says so much if a speaker has eye connection. Without it, the audience can be lost.

And what you say is so true, the audience will be glued to you.

    Thanks for the reminder.
